British Crime Survey statistics show that 2.4 per cent of households experience burglaries every year, illustrating the importance of getting adequate insurance.

Price comparison site, Confused.com has said that whilst burglaries have not increased between 2006 and 2008, "it is important not to rest on our laurels" as "729,000 burglaries are still taking place annually".
Product director at Confused.com has advised people to get contents insurance. He warned those that failed to do so "are potentially setting themselves up for a large bill, not to mention emotional turmoil, should they be unfortunate enough to suffer any loss or damage".
Contents insurance may not, however, cover individuals for specific items. Households may need to get additional camera insurance, for instance.
The price comparison site has also advised homeowners to undertake crime prevention methods as of those questioned, almost one third did not have any burglar alarms fitted.
