Research reveals insurance is important for students and concerned parents

7th August 2008

Parents concerned about their teenagers and undergraduates have been reminded of the importance of insurance after new research has revealed that student digs are often the target of thieves.

Esure has published results of research which shows that the average student will take nearly £1,500 worth of valuables with them to college and nearly a fifth of them will become the victims of theft.

Camera insurance may be worth considering as 51 per cent of those going to college have said they will be taking one with them.

Commenting on the importance of insurance, Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure home insurance, said: "Not having suitable insurance in place would hit students hard in the pocket and take a real chunk out of a student loan to replace the type of gadgets and designer gear that entices thieves."

In related news, independent financial data collection company, Defaqto, has said that whether a person has planned a holiday months in advance, or has booked something at the last minute, it is important to remember travel insurance and to take the appropriate documents.
